Quebec city's Jewish community since 1852

La communauté juive de Québec depuis 1852

WELCOME TO CBIOS

Congregation Beth Israel Ohev Sholem is one of North America's oldest Jewish communities.

CBIOS proudly represents the longest continuity of Jewish presence in Canada since the very first Jewish immigrant settled in Québec City in 1738.

We are beyond labels, and provide an environment that allows us to maintain and enjoy our cultural identities and practice our religion regardless of our backgrounds and levels of observance.

We generally offer orthodox prayer services, community Shabbat dinners, weekly study group sessions, and holiday  activities.

We also run a Kosher food program to facilitate the purchasing of Kosher foods that are not readily available  in Quebec City.

Please contact us if you would like more information or if you are planning a visit to Quebec City.

Help us preserve our past

and ensure our future.

Your contribution will ensure we can continue developing and offering our cultural, educational, and religious programs for future generations.

"There is a life of tradition that does not merely consist of conservative preservation of the spiritual and cultural possessions of the community. There is such a thing as a treasure hunt within tradition, which creates a living relationship to tradition and to which much of what is best in current Jewish consciousness is indebted even where it was--and is--expressed outside the framework of orthodoxy."

Beth Israel Ohev Sholem is the 4th Oldest Jewish Community in Canada.

The first Jewish immigrant arrived to Quebec City in 1738, and our community was formed in 1852.

In the mid-1940's, our community of approximately 300 families took the necessary steps to ensure the future of our community for  generations to come.

Their legacy is our existence, and we plan to honour it for years to come.
